Cultivar Compost – STA Certified, All-Purpose

Cultivar Compost is the choice for discerning horticulturists and organic farmers when farms, crops and landscapes require a tailor-made product.

Overview

Cultivar Compost is the choice for discerning horticulturists and organic farmers when farms, crops and landscapes require a tailor-made product. Cultivar Compost is the choice for high profile landscapes, like public and botanical gardens, upscale ornamental plantings, and turf. Our cultivar compost is also popular with certified organic farms, as it contains no composted food or BPI products.

Cultivar Compost is an STA Certified product made from the highest quality feedstocks, and tested regularly through the US Composting Council's Seal of Testing Assurance Program (STA) to ensure quality and consistency. Cultivar Compost is rich in organic matter, brimming with beneficial biology, and has a fine granular texture that gives this compost a lighter, more friable quality, making it a pleasure to work with.

*Made from yard waste, natural wood from trees and other organic materials. It does not contain any food scraps or BPI certified compostable products.

Ingredients

Cultivar Compost is made with local yard waste and natural wood from trees and turned into the black gold that fuels farms and builds healthy soils all over Southeast Michigan.

We craft a specific carbon to nitrogen ratio when mixing our recipe to meet the demand of the changing seasons, adding a natural bulking agent that increases the oxygen content and stabilizes temperatures in the windrows. After nine to twelve months of composting, the product is left to cure, further stabilizing and self-inoculating with beneficial microbes. The end result is a fine yet slightly granular texture that is nice to work with and provides a balance of structure and biology.

Analytical

Our Cultivar Compost has a rich black color, a fine particle size, and a nice granular texture. With a high organic matter content, it has a broad spectrum of beneficial soil biology and a slightly alkaline pH. This light and spongy compost is screened to 3/8″, and weighs on average 1,100 to 1,500 lbs/cubic yard. Contact us for an STA Certified Technical Data Sheet.

Benefits

Cultivar Compost is our premier compost designed and formulated to give discerning horticulturalists and organic farmers a high performance, stable, balanced, consistent product that can be trusted time and again. This is the number one choice for arboretums and public gardens.

Applying compost is the best way to build fertile, productive, and healthy soil. The organic matter supplied by compost is transformed slowly, providing a safe and sustainable organic foundation for your landscape. The abundant microorganisms in compost act to enhance the soil’s immune system, helping to fight off and prevent soil diseases. The physical characteristics of the organic matter help build strong soil structure, creating a well aggregated and porous, yet sponge-like soil matrix that is more resistant to compaction.

This matrix provides for the right balance of moisture and oxygen in the root zone, which promotes healthy deep rooting plants. It also improves the moisture holding capacity of light sandy soils, while improving infiltration and permeability in heavier clay based soils. Compost also improves the cation exchange capacity (CEC) and can help adjust soil pH.

Applications

  • STA Certified Cultivar Compost is Spurt’s premium performance product for horticultural and organic farming applications.

Topsoil Upgrade: The US Composting Council recommends “Strive for Five”, setting a target of 5% organic matter content by weight for soil. When amending depleted or shallow soils, first start with a soil test then depending on the results mix in several inches of compost, aiming for a blended end result of 5% organic matter content by weight.
