Bioretention Mix – in compliance with MDOT specs
Overview
Beauty is function, and function is beauty. Nowhere is that more true than our Bioretention Mix, finely tuned to meet specific performance parameters in large and small scale stormwater applications. By installing a bioretention system or rain garden using our Bioretention Mix, you can be assured that stormwater runoff will be efficiently captured, filtered, and infiltrated, and look good doing it.
The blend of native Michigan topsoil, finely graded sand, and STA Certified Compost ensures adequate porosity to handle storm events, reduce erosion, and support a thriving wildlife habitat all at once. The balance of mineral and organic components, designed in compliance with MDOT specs, is ideal for bioretention basins, swales, rain gardens, and other LEED-certified projects. Our Bioretention Mix is compliant with MDOT section 917, Standard Specifications for Construction.
Ingredients
Bioretention Mix is a blend of our STA Certified Compost, local native topsoil, and specially graded sand. The blend produces a specific particle size gradation, neutral pH, and an average organic matter content of 4-6% that’s perfect for controlling the movement of water in your landscape. Bioretention Mix is most often used in a whole system design that includes specific plant palettes and underdrainage for enhanced performance.
Analytical
Bioretention Mix is a manufactured soil with an ochre brown color, screened to 3/8”, a fine textured loamy sand soil classification, and weighs 1800-2200 lbs/cubic yard. It has an organic matter content around 4-6% by weight and a neutral pH. Analytical data sheets provided upon request.
*pH, weight and SOM parameters are only references. Spurt does not guarantee exact results.
Benefits
Bioretention Mix, in synchrony with plantings, captures, infiltrates, and filters stormwater in an ecologically resilient wildlife habitat. Rain gardens, swales, and bioretention features also provide visual interest and beauty in addition to their ecosystem services.
Applications
• Rain garden soils are typically installed in depths ranging from 12-48". Deeper medias are often installed in lifts that are lightly compacted. The ideal installation method is to use an excavator, telebelt, or slinger truck from outside the basin.
USGA Perfect Putt Rootzone Blend
Premium Golf Course Soil
Overview
Nowhere is consistent quality more important than in the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of golf course fairways and greens. Our Perfect Putt Rootzone Blend is manufactured to strict USGA standards to ensure superior performance from tee to green. Our sand-based blend mixes STA Certified Compost and carefully graded sand to produce an organically rich and fast-draining soil that supports deep root proliferation for resilient turf. USGA Perfect Putt Rootzone Blend does not utilize any peat, which is a non-renewable resource, making it the perfect local product for your local course.
Ingredients
USGA Perfect Putt Rootzone is a blend of finely graded sand and STA Certified Compost to supply essential biology to turfgrass and resist compaction on heavily trafficked areas.
Analytical
USGA Perfect Putt Rootzone Blend can be manufactured to meet your specific needs, whether it be a 90/10, 88/12, 85/15, 70/30, or a custom ratio of your choosing. Our blend is tested regularly for every project to tailor the parameters on a case-by-case basis.
Benefits
USGA Perfect Putt Blend is a great balance of organic matter, permeability, and texture. Uniformity assures an easy to work with soil that can be spread and compacted to your desired specifications. High quality organic matter strengthens the soil’s structural matrix, helping to reduce compaction and improve the root zone performance on high use fairways and greens. Organic matter also promotes deeper rooting turf by lightening up soil and creating pore spaces that improve infiltration. Organic matter promotes healthy growth while the biology improves disease resistance. USGA Perfect Putt Blend has a near neutral pH thus reducing or eliminating the need for other pH treatments.
Applications
Turf Construction and Seeding: USGA Perfect Putt Rootzone provides a great foundation for your new fairways and greens. Whether you’re crafting a new hole, grading a lawn area, or performing maintenance, USGA Perfect Putt Rootzone is the choice of soil for new and existing golf courses.
Clay Conquer – Clay Soil Remediation Blend
Overview
Southeast Michigan is famous for its clay soils rich in nutrients, but impossible to work with, especially when wet and compacted. Our Clay Conquer is specially designed for our region to break up heavy, compacted clays to provide better drainage, aeration, and support its natural nutrient retention. With a carefully formulated blend of STA Compost, coarse sand, and porous ceramic aggregate, clay doesn’t stand a chance!
Ingredients
Clay Conquer is a blend of our STA Certified Compost, coarse sand, and porous ceramic aggregate. The blend produces a slightly alkaline pH to work in harmony with the naturally alkaline clay soil and an average organic matter content of 7-10% by weight.
Analytical
Clay Conquer is a manufactured soil with a pecan brown color, screened to 3/8”, a fine textured sandy loam soil classification. It has an organic matter content of around 5-10% by weight on average and a slightly alkaline pH. Analytical data sheets provided upon request.
*pH, weight, and SOM parameters are only references. Spurt does not guarantee exact results.
Benefits
Clay Conquer is thoughtfully sourced and blended to maintain consistent quality, uniform properties, and yearlong availability. Its low bulk density is easy to transport, spread, and amend your difficult clay soils. A slightly alkaline pH and organic content around 7% average provides a strong foundation for plant growth while kickstarting aggregation and the rehabilitation of degraded soil. Plant available moisture is maintained with an infusion of organic matter, allowing excess water to infiltrate with the addition of well-draining sand and aggregate. This strong soil matrix also promotes deep rooting and resistance to compaction. By remediating your clay soils, you can unlock their true potential and get back to growing what you love, right in your own backyard!
Applications
Clay Soil Remediation: Mix 1 part Clay Conquer with 1-part native soil. When preparing a deep bed (8-12"), till in 3-4" of Clay Conquer at a time, then repeat. Crest your bed in the center to assist with drainage.
