Spurt dirt is our most revisited soil blend because of its quality, consistency, and the beautiful growth it supports. This soil blend balances water holding with infiltration to provide plant support and build soil health in any application from day one. It’s crafted from native Michigan topsoil and STA Certified Compost to provide plenty of porosity, structure, and biology for your in-ground planting needs. A balance of sandy loam/loamy sand and dark, rich compost is ideal for both infiltrating and storing water, aerating the root-zone, and building long-term soil health.

Spurt dirt is thoughtfully sourced and blended to maintain consistent quality, uniform properties, and yearlong availability. Its sandy loam texture is easy to transport, spread, and amend for in-ground and raised-bed planting. A slightly alkaline pH and the average organic matter content provide a strong foundation for plant growth while kickstarting aggregation and the development of healthy soil. Plant available moisture is maintained with a generous infusion of organic matter, allowing excess water to infiltrate deeper into the soil profile. This strong soil matrix also promotes deep rooting and resistance to compaction. By supporting your soil food web, this blend bolsters nutrient retention and improves the plant’s pest and disease resistance.

Trees and Shrubs: Planting woody perennials requires a soil where their roots can quickly and easily establish and grow. Planting directly into this mix or using it as a backfill mixed with the excavated soil for the root ball are both viable options.
